Course aim
This course provides a comprehensive range of skills intended to preserve life, prevent worsening and promote recovery in any casualty.
Course content
- Primary survey
- Unconscious casualty and CPR (adult)
- Choking, shock and fainting
- Bleeding (minor and severe) and burns
- Seizures (adult) and allergic reaction
- Asthma, low blood sugar and stroke
- Chest pains (including heart attack)
- Bone, muscle and joint injuries; sprains and strains
- Head, eye and spinal injuries
- Poisons and casualty movement
Who should attend
Anyone expected to be a registered, full first aider on site.
Certification
Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (Ofqual regulated).
Frequently asked questions
How long does a First Aid at Work certificate last?
Three years, in line with HSE guidance. You should renew with a two-day requalification course before the expiry date.
What's the difference between First Aid at Work (FAW) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)?
EFAW is a one-day course covering immediate workplace emergencies and is suitable for lower-risk workplaces. First Aid at Work is the full three-day course, required for designated first aiders in higher-risk environments including most construction sites.
How many first aiders do I need by law?
There's no fixed number. HSE expects you to carry out a first aid needs assessment based on risk level and number of employees. For construction and higher-risk workplaces, FAW-trained first aiders are usually required.
Is it Qualsafe regulated?
Yes. This is the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (Ofqual regulated), recognised across UK industry and on construction sites.
How long is the course?
Three days, run consecutively or split. Delivered at our Salford training centre or on your site.
