Course aim
This course gives individuals the knowledge to direct vehicle movements in line with company instructions and health & safety policy, to provide directions to drivers using hand and arm signals, and raises awareness of the safety factors involved in vehicle movements in the workplace.

Who should attend
Anyone whose duties include marshalling or controlling traffic access and egress from a site or work area, and managing and co-ordinating the movement of vehicles, particularly where reversing is required.

Is a banksman legally required on site?
It depends. CDM and HSE guidance push for a competent banksman wherever vehicle movements and pedestrians cross. Most sites require trained banksmen for reversing operations and confined manoeuvres.
How long is the course?
Half a day, at our Salford training centre or on your site if you have safe space for practical work.
Are the standard hand signals covered?
Yes. We cover the recognised hand and arm signals for vehicle movements, plus communication and positioning.
How long does the certificate last?
Frameworks Certificate of Training is typically valid for three years. Many sites refresh annually.
