Frequently asked questions

Is asbestos awareness training a legal requirement?

Yes, for anyone whose work could disturb asbestos. Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires asbestos awareness training for workers who may come into contact with it, including most construction, maintenance and refurbishment trades.

How long does the asbestos awareness certificate last?

We recommend refresher training every year, in line with HSE guidance, to keep awareness up to date.

How long is the course?

Half a day, delivered at our Salford training centre or on your site.

What's the difference between Asbestos Awareness and Non-Licensed/Licensed Work?

Asbestos Awareness is the entry-level requirement. It covers identification, risks and what to do if you find asbestos. Non-Licensed and Licensed Work training is for people actually working ON asbestos, which is a separate, higher-tier qualification.

Can asbestos awareness be done online?

Some providers offer it online, but we deliver it in person so questions, site-specific examples and group discussion are part of the day. That tends to land better with learners and is preferred by many contractors.

Do I need this if I'm office-based?

Probably not, unless your role takes you into older buildings or onto refurbishment sites. Speak to your duty holder if unsure.
